Adidome community to patch township roads
Residents of the Adidome Central Electoral Area in the Central Tongu District are preparing to undertake a communal road patching exercise to improve sections of the township road network that have deteriorated over time.
In formal communication with the District Police Commander, Mr Guggisberg Fiagbenu, the Assembly Member for the Area, indicated that the growing number of potholes had become a safety concern for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
The potholes have also slowed smooth vehicular movement within the township.
Mr Fiagbenu noted that while appeals had been made to the relevant authorities for intervention, the community deemed it necessary to take interim measures to reduce inconvenience and enhance road safety while waiting for more comprehensive repairs by the appropriate institutions.
The exercise, which is scheduled for Monday, January 19, 2026, at 700 Hours, will engage local artisans and volunteers drawn from different sections of the township.
Mr Fiagbenu therefore requested a police presence to orderly manage traffic and support the smooth execution of the exercise.
Residents, who spoke to the GNA expressed optimism that the initiative would help alleviate transportation challenges faced by commercial drivers, traders and commuters, and also reduce minor accidents attributed to poor road surfaces.
They commended the Assembly Member for facilitating what they described as a “practical and community-driven” response to a long-standing concern.
Some stakeholders also indicated that the initiative would not only boost safety but contribute to a more congenial business environment within the township.
Mr. Fiagbenu reaffirmed the community’s readiness to collaborate with state agencies and the District Assembly for the sustained upgrading of township infrastructure.
He said the communal effort was intended to complement, and not replace, the mandate of the relevant authorities.
The Assembly Member copied the District Chief Executive in his correspondence, underscoring the need for continued engagement towards a long-term solution.
