Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia has called on Ghanaians to support the All Regional Games and all similar initiatives that aim to uplift the youth in the country.
From football and volleyball to athletics, basketball, boxing, tennis, and arm wrestling, the initiative aims to unearth the next generation of Ghanaian sporting talent and provide a pathway for their development.
The initiative requires each region to conduct trials and select its top sportsmen and women, who will then compete against athletes from other regions.
In a Facebook post on Saturday ( 6 July) after launching the initiative in Kumasi, Bawumia said Ghanaians must harness the power of sports to build a stronger and united Ghana.
“I joined Ghana legend Asamoah ‘Baby Jet’ Gyan to launch the All-Regional Games 2024 at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi this evening.
“This championship, organized by Asamoah Gyan in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and spanning several sporting disciplines, marks a significant milestone in our collective effort to revive grassroots sports across all 16 regions of our nation.”
“Sports have always been a unifying force, transcending barriers and bringing people together. Together, we can harness the power of sports to build a stronger, more united Ghana. Let us support the All-Regional Games and all similar initiatives that aim to uplift our youth and promote national pride,” Bawumia said.
