The Keta Business College (KetaBusco) in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region has launched ‘Ɣleti Club’ to educate, encourage and guide students on various lifestyles.
The Ɣleti club, which was initiated and originated from Caring Sisters’ Vocational School at Tegbi in the Anloga district was also aimed at equipping and educating young students on the best choices in life.
Madam Sese Gadzekpo, the Founder and President of the Club, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the club also educated female students on sexual and reproductive health.
“The group was formed in 2024, and the name ‘Ɣleti’ means star, we want to make stars out of our future leaders, and our aim is to get to about 20 schools within the Anloland to educate students to live better life that would benefit them in future,” she said.
She said the club received support from Stanbic Bank, First Atlantic Bank, individuals, philanthropists and group of institutions which enabled the students and their various facilitators to meet on every Wednesdays of the week for studies.
Madam Matilda Dzotepe, the Headmistress of KetaBusco, told the GNA that the club is expected to impact positive behaviours into the students which would help change the narrative from what the school experienced over the years.
“This is a good initiative, it will help remold students and educate them on premature sex and drug abuse. As I am talking to you now, some female students are pregnant while male ones have been engaging in drugs among others.”
She lamented on high indiscipline among many students recently and hoped that the impact of the club would change their behaviours for the best and warned that any students that could be held responsible would be made to face the full rigours of the laws of the school authorities.
Madam Dzotepe appealed to all parents to assist and support their children to join the club adding that ,”charity begins at home, and if a child will be better in life, it starts from the house and parents have responsibility, they should not hesitate to educate female children on sexual and reproductive health.”
Mr Daniel Billy Adorkortsey, the Patron of the programme, explained to the GNA that adolescent reproductive health was paramount to the club and all students who were members of the club understood the concepts and the principles.
