Let’s stop the politics—NPP’s Justin Kodua pushes for independent investigation into suspicious aircraft operations

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has called for establishing an independent Commission of Inquiry to investigate the growing allegations of suspicious aircraft movements and alleged illicit cargo handling at Ghana’s airports.

Speaking on AsaasePa 107.3’s political and current affairs programme Atumpan, Justin Kodua stressed that only an independent investigation could uncover the truth behind the claims which have dominated public discourse in recent days.

“We are pushing for an independent Commission of Inquiry. That is the only way the truth will come out. We don’t trust the information from the government, especially being churned out by Kwakye Ofosu,” he stated.

According to him, the issue has gone beyond partisan lines and must now be treated as a national security concern.

“The security agencies are [also] overstretched with the issue, and so the time has come to shun the partisanship and deal with it as a national issue,” he added.

Justin Kodua also commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his initial response, which indicated a willingness to collaborate on investigations. However, he criticized the President’s spokesperson for allegedly undermining that effort.

“In fact, I even applaud the president. The President quickly responded by saying that there should be a collaborative investigation. Then all of a sudden, the spokesperson to the president, who is throwing his weight about… he must be sacked. He is undermining the position of the president,” Kodua fumed.

His comments come on the back of recent attempts by operatives of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to arrest Rev. Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament for Assin South and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Interior and Defence Committee.

Rev. Fordjour had earlier made allegations suggesting irregular aircraft operations at some Ghanaian airports involving suspicious cargo and the possible complicity of state officials — claims that have since sparked intense controversy and public debate.
