Kwame Baffoe, aka Abronye DC, was arrested and charged on Tuesday (15 February) on two counts of publication of false news and offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace.
Kwame Baffoe (popularly known as Abronye DC), the Bono regional chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been granted bail of GHC100,000 with two sureties.
He appeared in court on Wednesday and was charged on two counts of publication of false news and offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace.
Abronye DC is expected to return to court on 9 March 2022.
He reported to the Accra Regional Police Command on Tuesday (15 February) after it extended an invitation to him to assist officers in an investigation.
Abronye DC is alleged to have claimed that the former president John Dramani Mahama is planning to stage a coup d’état in Ghana.
According to the police, a preliminary investigation has established that his claims against the former president are untrue and likely to occasion a breach of the peace.
“In view of this, he has been formally arrested and charged on two counts of publication of false news and offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace,” the Ghana Police Service said.
