Agriculture Minister Owusu Afriyie Akoto resigns

Dr. Afriyie Akoto’s resignation from the cabinet came four days after that of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the minister of trade.

Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the minister of food and agriculture, has resigned.

On Tuesday, he submitted his letter of resignation to President Akufo-Addo (10 January 2023).

Dr. Afriyie Akoto’s resignation came four days after Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the minister of trade and industry, left the administration to run for the leadership of the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 elections.

In order to focus solely on their campaign and avoid interfering with administration, NPP regulations require any ministers of state interested in running for the party’s flagbearer position to resign from their position in the government.

According to rumors, the Council of Elders of the NPP is requesting that all candidates for the presidency step down immediately to maintain stable government.
