Residents of Fuveme, a coastal community in the Anloga District of the Volta Region have received some assorted goods from the District Chief Executive (DCE) Hon. Seth Yormewu as a livelihood support after massive tidal wave attack on the community.
These items include 150 pieces of 25kg bags of rice, 120 pieces of 1Litre bottles of cooking oil, 500 rubber bowls and cups, mosquito nets and other repellants as well as bags of beans and gari.
These aboriginal residents for some weeks were displaced from their homes and some three, also died during the tidal attacks.
This according to the residents, stalled their economic activities and made them homeless.
Addressing the residents, Hon Seth Yormewu pledged his commitment to expedite measures to safeguard the lives of the residents against any future tidal wave erosion.
He indicated that reports on the current state of the community and it’s indigenes were filed to the Volta Regional Minister Hon. Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa for swift actions to be employed.
The DCE added that in due time, government will curb the menace by erecting sea defence walls so the residents could go on with their daily economic activities.
He appealed to them to support government devoid of partisan politics so that the necessary measures can be initiated to control the tidal attacks.
Mr. Yormewu later, handed over the items to the Assembly member of the area Hon. Raphael Agbanavor and elders of the community and propelled them to share among the residents.
The district director for the National Disaster Management Organization, Mr. Philip Bokorgah also stressed that he will join hands to making life bearable for the residents despite their current state.
Hon. Agbanavor, after receiving the items, expressed gratitude to the DCE and other members from the Assembly.
He however urged the residents to promptly report any case of inconvenience for immediate actions to be taken.
