Residents of Klikor-Shitorkope, a community in the Ketu South Municipality have registered their displeasure over three completed but ‘abandoned’ health facilities in the area.
These facilities were built in 2016 and 2017 respectively by the former Member of Parliament (MP) for the municipality, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey under the sponsorship of CDH Financial Holding Limited and MP’s NHIA Fund, have not been in use despite the cry of the residents for its opening to enhance healthcare delivery in the area.
Speaking with the Municipal Health Director Dr. Joseph Degleh, he indicated that after completion of the facilities in 2016 and 2017, the health directorate has not been given the keys to the facilities and this has deterred them from using the structures over the years.
He said the people of Klikor and its sub-communities have complained bitterly on the issue, but assured that his office will endeavor to work things out no matter how long it will take so that the facilities could be opened to improve healthcare delivery in the area.
The Physician Assistant in-charge of the Klikor Health Center, Matilda Edem Galley, also revealed that several attempts to get these facilities opened has proven futile.
“According to reports that have reached me, the contractor who built these CHPS Compounds was not fully paid so he also does not want to release the keys. There is only one Health Center in the town but the people of Klikor needed a bigger facility to develop in terms of healthcare delivery and there it is lying in the bush unused.” She laments.
Madam Galley stated that, there is always much pressure mounted on her and the medical team thus, sometimes had to refer the patients to other places for medical care since the operational health facility in the area can only entertain a minimum number of patients.
“I plead with the government to help us fix this situation for the people of Klikor. Some of the patients had to sit under trees, and some even under the hot sun because this current structure cannot contain all of them. Meanwhile there is a bigger structure unexploited.” She explained.
The Assemblyman for Klikor Electoral Area, Hon. Jacob Dalete Maconi, who also shared his sentiment, pledged his commitment to put the issue before the Ketu South Municipal general assembly as soon as they commence sitting.
He called on the residents to be calm as he works to see a successful opening of the facilities.
Meanwhile, attempts reach the former MP Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey and the said contractor have proven futile.
