Jail Break: Rape Suspect Escapes from Hospital in Dzodze

A rape suspect on admission at the St. Anthony Hospital at Dzodze in the Ketu North Municipality has escaped from custody.

Volta Online understands, Mawuli Adzitso,
the 26 -year old suspect, was on remand at the Dzodze Central Police station over rape charges, until Monday, July 5, 2021, when he complained of chest pains and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

He however escaped on Saturday morning, when his police guard, released him  to use the washroom.

According to a police wireless message sighted by Volta Online, a staff of the hospital alerted the police of the incident after the police constable on duty failed to do so.

‘The guard  duty man, No. 58152 G/Const. Stephen Kobi who had failed to report the incident to the station for assistance was contacted and he confirmed the escape of the said prisoner at about 0900hrs.The constable explained that he had removed the handcuffs from the hands of the prisoner for him to attend to nature’s call but could not locate him again after some minutes.’

‘As a rule, the constable has been given ten days to search and recapture the prisoner,’ the message concluded.
