MTN Ghana foundation on Tuesday 25th December cut sod for the construction of an ultra-modern health facility at Keta in the Volta Region.
This ultra-modern and state of art 60-bed high-tech maternity and neo-natal center for the Keta Municipal Hospital was initially announced by MTN in December 2021 as part of their 25th-anniversary celebration projects alongside building a STEM Robotics Lab for the Mamfe Girls School in Eastern Region.
The project was initiated by one Mr. Divine Kordzo Dzokoto popular called Kordzo Baba through a personal conversation between him (Kordzo Baba) and the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana; Mr. Selorm Adadevoh who is also a native of Keta, some time ago has eventually materialized.
The initiative was also masterminded by Torgbi Tenge-Gobah Sedoh and other opinion leaders who are all part of an NGO called; Project Volta, an NGO poised for spearheading developmental projects in the region.
In an address delivered by Mr. Selorm Adadevoh, he showed gratitude to the initiators and all other stakeholders who helped in diverse ways in making this materialize.
Mr. Adadevoh declared that; this Keta project is so unique among the 53 health projects they have delivered in the last 15 years.
“This project is one of our 3 milestone projects as part of our 25th-anniversary projects…and just happen to be the largest maternity block projects we undertaking since the inception of the MTN Ghana foundation” Mr. Adadevoh declared.
Keta Municipal Hospital is an important hospital that delivers health care to people not only within the Keta-Anlo area but from nearby districts and neighboring Togo. According to authorities, the current maternity ward only has a 20-bed capacity which undermines the ever-rising maternity health demands every year at Keta Hospital.
The hospital continues to lack basic necessities every year, which always triggers opinion leaders and politicians to seek such support from benevolent people, it was the same initiative that brought MTN Ghana into the conversation but, the CEO after several negotiations and engagements realized the hospital needs a more permanent and unique solution to the problem than mere basic supports.
This project consist of a 40-bed maternity ward, 20-bed neonatal unit, delivery, and line-in wards, 2 operating theatres, a 20-bed hostel for mothers, consulting rooms, laboratory & dispensary, anesthetic rooms, restrooms, canteen and storage rooms, a gas tank among others.
The project is expected to be completed in 12 months and will cost approximately Ghc15.2 million. The construction firm responsible for the project is “Build-Up Ghana” led by Mr. Ansah Nathan
According to Dr. Kwesi Senanu Dzokoto, this project is a dream come true because maternity health delivery services have been a worrying situation in the Region over the years. In his appreciation speech, this 60-bed project will augment that of Ho teaching hospital because of its location which will allow it to serve a greater number of pregnant and nursing mothers in the southern sector of the Region.
Torgbui Sri III, Awormefia of Anlo Kingdom was the special guest of honor and he could not hide his joy but showered praises on Mr. Adadevoh for his soft-heartedness and entreated all natives of Anloland to emulate him by bringing developmental projects to their hometowns.
The groundbreaking ceremony was done by Mr. Selorm Adedevoh, CEO of MTN Ghana, Dr. Kwesi Senanu Dzokoto, Volta Regional director of health services, Hon. Emmanuel Gemegah, MCE of Keta and Torgbui Sri III, Awormefia of Anlo Kingdom.
Others present were; Mr. Samuel Koranten of the MTN foundation board, Mr. Emmanuel Konah, Keta Municipal director of Health among others.
