”Resolutions to resolve the Akatsi disturbances inadequate, an independent commission of inquiry needed”-Hon Bernard Ahiafor

The law-maker of Akatsi South Constituency has described as inadequate, the measures passed to resolve the Akatsi Youth and Police clash,calls for an independent commission of inquiry.

The Member of Parliament for the Akatsi South Municipal, Hon Bernard Ahiafor has described the measures taken by the Municipal Security Council to resolve the Police and Youth disturbances as inadequate. These he said after he had a meeting with the Paramount Chief of Avenor, Togbe Dorglo Anumah ,Security Chiefs and some other stakeholders after his trip from India where he was on an official Parliamentary duty.

Mr Ahiafor was away on an official  Parliamentary duty when a Police shoot out claimed the life of 16 year old Hamza Ademu and others in critical condition after  youths agitated against the death of  20 year old Setor Fiagbenya  who was allegedly ran over by a Police riot van.

The Law-maker  whilst appreciating the efforts of Stakeholders in maintaining peace and calm  in the Municipality said there is more to be done.

“I would like to use this opportunity to immensely thank the Municipal Chief Executive, the Chiefs, Youth representatives and Opinion Leaders for their efforts towards maintenance of peace and tranquility in Akatsi. To them I say ayeeko. To my Youth and the entire populace of Akatsi, I sincerely thank you for the understanding and cooperation in the peace building efforts

Nonetheless, I want to state clearly that the resolutions passed in respect of the matter with all due admiration were inadequate. I do not want to sound judgmental either in the matter under reference but to take suitable steps in collaborations with the stakeholders and call for an independent investigation into the matter”

Mr Ahiafor went on to condemn the actions leading to the death of 3 victims so far.

”I want to put on record that I vehemently condemn what happened leading to the death and injury to my constituents. NEVER again should such a thing happen’.

*BERNARD AHIAFOR SPEAKS; THE AFTERMATH OF AKATSI YOUTH CLASH WITH THE POLICE.*

I just ended a crunch meeting with the Paramount Chief and the President of Avenor Traditional Council, the MCE, some chiefs, the speaker of the Youth Parliament and few opinion leaders on my return to Ghana and to the constituency today 16th April 2022 on the way forward to having amicable solutions to the incidents of clashes between the Youth and the Police at Akatsi.

I would like to use this opportunity to immensely thank the Municipal Chief Executive, the Chiefs, Youth representatives and Opinion Leaders for their efforts towards maintenance of peace and tranquility in Akatsi. To them I say ayeeko. To my Youth and the entire populace of Akatsi, I sincerely thank you for the understanding and cooperation in the peace building efforts.
