Residents of Shiare in the Nkwanta South municipality of the Oti region are appealing to government and the Ghana Tourism Authority to rediscover and develop the Shiare waterfalls and the Kyabobo reserves.
Shiare tourism potentials, if given the needed attention, would rake in revenue for the tourism sector in the region and Ghana.
Hidden among the water bodies in Shiare is a beautiful waterfall with cold waters which serve as source of drinking water to residents due to its cleanness.
The hanging village located on the sides of a mountain gives the village a beautiful look from afar.
Shiare is said to be an ancestral home and capital of the Akyode people.
The community is a settlement on and around the famous “breast mountains” that erupts beyond the Kyabobo reserves.
Roads from Nkwanta to Shiare is in a bad state making a journey to the community very tiring a situation which discourages travellers and tourist from getting to the foot of the mountains.
Despite the natural beauty and the serenity of the place, Shiare waterfall is yet to be fully utilised even though it has been in existence as old as Ghana.
Road construction is currently ongoing which when fully completed, will attract tourists and investors.
In an interview with Inside Ghana News Service (IGNEWSS), residents appealed to government and the Ghana Tourism Authority to help provide them with good health facilities and other social amenities that will enhance their standard of living and economic development.
Madam Patience Tawia who lives in the Nkwanta South township but have her families at Shiare said, the people suffer a lot to get their farm produce reach the market for sale.
She revealed that, some nurses and teachers deny posting to the community because of the poor road network and internet connectivity.
The Assembly member for the area, Hon. Benjamin Kwame Nyame said, one of the greatest challenges they are faced with is telecommunication since they do not have good network.
He added that, they have appealed to the Nkwanta South Assembly to help them have access to telecommunication network and are waiting patiently for a favourable outcome.
Mr Nyame further called on investors and Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) who can help address their challenges to come to their aid.
He believed this will bring a lot of transformation and development to the residents and the Nkwanta South municipality when attention is given to the site.
