The Government of Ghana has signed a financial agreement with Japan for the construction of phase two of the Tema Motorway Roundabout project, starting in September this year.
Phase two of the project will see the construction of a third-tier flyover, which will be a composite bridge structure, running between Harbour Road and Ashaiman on the N2.
This will bring to completion the construction of the intended three-tier interchange at the Tema Motorway Roundabout.
It is expected that the project will be completed in November 2024.
The works will involve construction of a composite bridge and ramps and auxiliary roads totalling 1.75 kilometres in length and running between Harbour Road and Ashaiman.
Present at the signing of the grant agreement were the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, together with officials from the Ghana Highway Authority and Ghana’s embassy in Japan, including Her Excellency Genevieve Edna Apaloo, Ambassador to Japan.
First phase
Phase one of the project was inaugurated in June 2020.
Funded with a Japanese grant worth $55.6 million, it involved the construction of a 2.1-kilometre, three-lane dual carriageway with an underpass 730 metres long. It also included the improvement of a 1.9-kilometre, two-lane dual carriageway from Ashaiman Roundabout on to the Harbour Road.
