Some youth of Anlo Afiadenyigba in the Keta Municipality of the Volta region have lashed out on the Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Emmanuel Gemegah.
The action, according to the youth, is regarding a radio comment the MCE was alleged to had made about the Right to Information (RTI) commission’s fines slapped on the Keta Municipal Assembly for denying the Assembly member of Dziehe/ Ablame electoral area in Anlo Afiadenyigba, Hon. Gilbert Komla Keklie, some information.
The RTI Commission has slapped a GH¢60,000 fine on the Keta Municipal Assembly for denying one of its assembly members information and failing to answer queries from the commission on information he requested on three separate contracts.
The committee’s decisions were taken unilaterally without recourse to the general assembly of the municipality.
However, the Anlo Afiadenyigba Youth Council led by Bubu Klinogo have called on Mr. Emmanuel Gemegah to render an apology and subsequently withdraw his comments made against the Chief and opinion leaders of Anlo Afiadenyigba amidst the RTI brouhaha.
According to the youth, the MCE mentioned on a Keta based radio station, to boycott functions at Anlo-Afiadenyigba and further threatened to deny the area developmental projects.
They observed that, the MCE sought to suggest in his pronouncements that, no revenue comes to the Keta Municipal Assembly from Anlo-Afiadenyigba.
“Over the years, we were under the impression that apart from the Keta market, Anlo-Afiadenyigba generates the highest revenue to the Assembly. In view of the comments that you made, are we then supposed to retain every revenue that is generated from the community, for instance from the Waybills?”. They noted.
The youth further reminded the MCE of his promises made concerning the Anlo – Afiadenyigba Junction to Havedzi road during the 2022 Hogbetsotso mini durbar and the 2022 farmers’ day which were held in Anlo-Afiadenyigba and asked him to attend to it urgently.
According to them “the MCE is aware, the citizens of Anlo-Afiadenyigba started mobilising resources towards the road before you informed the world that government has taken over the project which made the residents to stop their contributions.”
The Anlo-Afiadenyigba Youth Council is therefore asking the MCE to furnish them with details and particulars of acts of misconduct by Hon. Keklie to guide them to call him to order.
They further urged Mr. Gemegah to make use of the structures and standing orders of the Assembly if he believes that Mr. Keklie has been misconducting himself.
They said, instead of going on that tangent of hiding behind the reality, they would want to advise the General Assembly to set up a committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the imposition of the RTI fine on the assembly, with the view of finding out those officials whose duty it was to provide the requested information but failed to do so.
“It is our considered opinion that those officials must be held liable for wilfully causing financial loss to the assembly and be surcharged accordingly”. They added.
When Hon. Emmanuel Gemegah, the Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), was contacted on the development, he said his lawyers have not yet ordered him to speak on the issue.
