E.T. Mensah wins Greater Accra Council of State polls

The former minister of sports obtained all the 58 votes to win the slot, defeating his predecessor Nii Kotei Dzani.

Former National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Ningo-Prampram E.T. Mensah has been elected to represent Greater Accra Region on the Council of State after obtaining 100% votes on Friday.

Ashanti Region

The Agona Akrofonsohene, Nana Owusu Achaw Brempong, has been re-elected the Ashanti Region’s representative of the Council of State.

The 66-year-old polled 77 votes beating six others to win the sole slot, reports Daily Mail GH.

In his acceptance speech, Nana Brempong thanked the delegates for believing in him and assured that he will present the region’s interest to the president.

“The victory is for all Ashantis and not me as an individual… While with the council, I would focus my energy on what I believe are our priorities in the region. I will continue to push the government’s agenda on agriculture such as planting for food and jobs and planting for exports to enhance the livelihood of people in the Ashanti region,” Nana Brempong said.

“As far as I am concerned, we will work tirelessly to protect the good name of our Great Kingdom and improve the development of this region,” he added.

In all, 102 candidates from 16 regions filed to contest the regional slots of the Council of State on 12 February 2021 at the close of nominations on 4 February 2021.
