2022 World Cup qualifiers: Ghana beats Ethiopia to top group G

The Black Stars of Ghana opened their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign on a good note by beating the Walia Antelopes of Ethiopia on Friday night at the Cape Coast sports stadium.

Mubarak Wakaso scored Ghana’s only game of the game to send the Black Stars top of Group G in the World Cup qualifiers in the 35th minute to mark his 13th international goal for Ghana in 59 appearances since making his debut in 2012 for the Black Stars.

Speaking to the media after the game, head coach of the Black Stars, CK Akonnor dismissed claims that his side have a goal scoring problem.

“If you watch our game we create a lot of chances. This same chances in our squad against Qatar scored five goals.”

So it’s not a situation whereby we cannot score goals but now it seems so but I strongly believe we will score goals.We are doing well and creating chances. With time it will come”- he added.

Ghana sits on top of Group G with 3 points with South Africa and Zimbabwe sitting on second and third position with a point  each. Ethiopia is at the bottom with no point.

The Black Stars will team leave Cape Coast on tomorrow morning to Accra and then travel to South Africa for their second game against Bafana Bafana at the Soccer City Sports Stadium on Monday.
