Dzodze Bagome flood: Ketu North MCE intervenes
Rev. Martin Amenaki, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu North, has directed the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to provide temporary shelter and necessary support to a family displaced by flooding at Dzodze Bagome.
This directive was given following a heavy downpour at Dzodze and other communities.
Upon receiving the report, the MCE instructed the Municipal NADMO Coordinator to take swift action while detailed assessments were carried out.
He later joined NADMO officials on a visit to the affected area in the early hours of Sunday to inspect the situation.
He expressed sympathy to the victims and assured them that their welfare was being prioritised.
Rev. Amenaki noted that the affected house and its surroundings remained unsafe due to the extent of flooding and structural damage.
He tasked NADMO to continue monitoring the family and provide any additional relief items as needed.
He applauded the quick response of NADMO personnel and community members who immediately offered support after the incident.
According to his preliminary assessment, the flooding was largely caused by choked gutters obstructing the natural flow of water.
He has therefore instructed the Assembly Member for the area, Mr. Lawrence Dordunoo, to ensure the immediate desilting and continuous maintenance of all gutters to prevent future occurrences.
Rev. Amenaki reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to protecting lives and property while enhancing drainage and sanitation systems across the municipality.
Meanwhile, the affected family expressed their gratitude to the MCE and NADMO for their timely intervention.
Mr. Dordunoo, speaking on behalf of the family and the community, also thanked the authorities for responding swiftly to the needs of the victims.
