
Keta Municipal Assembly supports students living with disabilities
The Keta Municipal Assembly in the Volta Region, has taken steps towards the promotion of inclusive education by supporting Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the municipality with teaching and learning materials.
The educational materials distributed included exercise books, textbooks, poster colors, Mathematical sets, among others, and it was to aid improved teaching and learning of the PWDs in the area.
Mr Wisdom Seade, the Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), during the ceremony held at the premises of the assembly, emphasized that the materials were aimed toward improving educational development, and nurture structures of the PWDs for better future.
“The Assembly’s initiative is to help shine on the development and achievements of the PWD students, we are committed to promoting inclusive education and supporting the development of PWDs,” he said.

Mr Seade explained that it was important to support the education of PWDs within the municipality and to encourage them to strive harder for excellence.
He said the gesture was a testament to the Keta Municipal Assembly’s commitment to promoting inclusive education and supporting the development of PWDs in the municipality while other assemblies learn to follow suit to empower other PWDs to become self-reliant and contribute to the development of the municipalities.
“My message to you the students living with disability is that, you must see the importance of education and work hard towards your own improvement.”
Mr Seade urged the beneficiaries to make optimal use of the materials provided to excel in their studies and pledged that the assembly would continue to support the PWDs to make impact in various sectors, calling on them not to look down on themselves, saying, “you can make a change, just keep moving and we are ready to assist you.”
Mr Fred Selorm Kasu, the Head of the Social Welfare Department at Keta, indicated that his department partnered the community in organising the exercise.
He said the department worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the event and commended the Disability Fund Management Committee for their tireless efforts that enabled and ensured that the applicants received the necessary support they needed to pursue their education.
Mr Robert Kotey Ashie, the Unit Head, told the Ghana News Agency in a interview that, a total of 27 students, comprising 16 females and 11 males, benefited from the initiative.
He expressed excitement about how the beneficiaries were overjoyed by the gesture and their gratitude to the MCE and the entire assembly for the kind gesture and urged beneficiary students to make good use of the materials provided and to work hard in their studies.
He called on other applicants who were yet to receive the support to exercise patience for their turn as arrangement were underway to provide support for many more PWDs in the area.
The parents of the students who spoke to GNA, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the MCE and the entire assembly for the laudable initiative and prayed for its continuation through the District Assembly Common Fund, which would go a long way in empowering their wards to become productive members of society.
They expressed the hope that the initiative was sustained and expanded to cover more beneficiaries in the future.
Some beneficiaries’ students the GNA engaged, also thanked the donors for the gesture and expressed their commitment to working hard and making the most of the opportunity provided to them.
