Akatsi Rainstorm: James Gunu assures affected residents of support 

Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has assured affected residents of government support after a recent rainstorm disaster that wreaked havoc on some parts of Akatsi township in the Volta Region. 

He indicated that his outfit had already directed officials of the National Disaster Management (NADMO) to assess the extent of damage that would enable them to release the needed relief items to the area.

Mr Gunu gave the assurance on Wednesday, April 9 at the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly Hall during the confirmation of Mr Daniel Dagba, the President’s nominee for the position of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). 

“I have already communicated with the appropriate authorities, including NADMO and the Member of Parliament for the area for a collaborative intervention.”  

He further appealed to all affected residents to ensure proper setting up of their projects in order to prevent future disturbances.

This, Mr Gunu said, ought to be accomplished with the help of the various technocrats and experts at the assembly, where projects would be properly inspected and approved before commencement of work. 

Hundreds of households, including some key government and private institutions, were affected due to the heavy windstorm that occurred on Sunday, March 30 around 1800 hours, ripping off roofings, and destroying buildings and electricity poles, among others.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) also gathered that Mr Bernard Ahiafor, Member of Parliament for Akatsi South, who doubles as the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament has since released packets of roofing sheets to be distributed to the affected residents while embarking on an official international assignment outside the country.
