Assembly Member urges timely commissioning of Sayikorfe and Tsetsekpo bridges

Mr Guggisberg Fiagbenu, the Assembly Member of the Adidome Central Electoral Area, has appealed to the Volta Regional Minister and the Regional Director of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) to facilitate the timely commissioning of the Sayikorfe and Tsetsekpo bridges, which have both undergone major reconstruction.

Mr. Fiagbenu recalled that the collapsed Sayikorfe bridge, originally a single-lane structure without a pedestrian walkway, posed significant risks to commuters.

He appealed to the government for an upgraded reconstruction into a dual carriage bailey bridge with a dedicated walkway, a request to which the government responded positively.

He noted that, “when progress on the Sayikorfe project reached about 40 per cent, I again appealed for the nearby Tsetsekpo bridge to be rehabilitated to the same standard.”

“Following this appeal, a team from the Bridge Maintenance Unit at Kukurantumi, led by the Project Supervisor, Mr Jonas Asamoa Pepra, commenced rehabilitation and expansion works.”

The Assembly Member said that after a brief halt in activity, he wrote to the Volta Regional Director of the GHA for clarification, which received a swift response.

On November 16, 2025, the project supervisor mentioned that work on the Tsetsekpo bridge had been completed and handed over to the regional office for commissioning.

He appealed to the relevant authorities to expedite the commissioning of both bridges to enhance safety and improve transportation for residents and commuters.

Mr  Fiagbenu also urged Joshob Construction Company Limited to also intensify work on the Adidome–Juapong road, while stressing the need for immediate maintenance of the deteriorating alternative route.
