Mahama launches NDC women’s manifesto in Kumasi

The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Election 2024, John Dramani Mahama says he will introduce a Property Rights of Spouses Bill if he wins the upcoming presidential election.

Speaking in Kumasi on Monday [Sept 30, 2024] at the launch of the NDC women’s manifesto, Mr Mahama said, “Marriage unites spouses, and in the event of any unfortunate circumstances, properties such as buildings and farmland should be shared equally. No man should have the authority to evict a woman without her receiving her rightful share.”

Domestic workers bill

Aside the Property Rights of Spouses Bill, Mr Mahama said he plans to also introduce a Domestic Workers Bill, aimed at protecting vulnerable workers, predominantly women, from mistreatment.

He explained that this law will ensure protection and accountability for those who exploit domestic workers, putting an end to such abuse.

We’ll increase women’s representation in Parliament and leadership roles – Mahama

Mr Mahama also said he was commitment to increasing women’s representation in Parliament, district assemblies, and other leadership roles in Ghana.

He ensuring gender equality in leadership is not just a moral obligation but a crucial step in harnessing the full potential of Ghana’s human resources.
