Renovated Galo–Sota Health Centre Commissioned
Authorities in the Anloga District have officially commissioned and handed over a renovated Galo–Sota Health Centre to the community.
The project marks a significant step towards strengthening primary healthcare delivery and improving access to quality and safe health services for residents of Galo, Sota, and surrounding communities.
The renovation, which involved extensive structural and facility upgrades, was undertaken to address the previously deplorable state of the health centre.
For years, the poor condition of the facility discouraged residents from seeking medical care and created difficult working conditions for health professionals.
With the completion of the works, the upgraded centre is expected to enhance service delivery, improve operational efficiency, and contribute to better health outcomes across its catchment area.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mr Richard Kwame Sefe, Member of Parliament for Anlo Constituency, who spearheaded the project, said the initiative was driven by a collective resolve to improve healthcare infrastructure and restore confidence in public health facilities.
“This renovation was necessitated by our shared desire to create a more conducive environment for both healthcare professionals and patients. The improved facility will enhance efficiency and restore public trust in the Galo–Sota Health Centre,” he said.
Mr Sefe revealed that healthcare delivery was not interrupted during the renovation period, thanks to the selfless intervention of Professor Lade Wosornu, who offered his personal room as a temporary healthcare space.
He described the gesture as exemplary and worthy of commendation.
Appreciation was also extended to the District Chief Executive for Anloga, Madam Sandra Kpedor, for her immense support, as well as to the Constituency Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including Mr Rolex Agbey Miheso and other party members, for their contributions towards the successful completion of the project.
The Assembly member, chiefs, and elders of Galo and Sota were similarly commended for their guidance, cooperation, and sustained community support.
The renovated health centre now boasts key functional units, including an Out-Patient Department, detention wards, delivery rooms, a dispensary, and other essential service areas required to support basic healthcare delivery.
Despite the successful renovation, the facility continues to face significant resource constraints.
Checks by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) revealed that the centre lacks critical equipment, including a modern laboratory and diagnostic facilities such as scanning services.
Interviews conducted by GNA with residents during the ceremony further highlighted persistent challenges in accessing healthcare.
Several community members disclosed that due to limited services at the Galo–Sota Health Centre, they are often compelled to seek medical attention at the Anloga Health Centre or the Keta Government Hospital.
According to residents, the situation imposes a heavy financial burden on households, particularly pregnant women who require frequent antenatal and postnatal care, hence the need to post more staff and equip the centre with a scan laboratory.
Mr Prosper Sevor, Municipal Director of the National Health Insurance Authority, who was present at the ceremony, assured residents of sustained and uninterrupted service delivery at the facility.
He announced plans for an upcoming National Health Insurance Scheme registration exercise for the community, scheduled to take place in the following week in partnership with Mr Rolex Agbey Miheso, the Constituency Chairman of the NDC.
