Tragic fire claims life of shop owner at Avoeme Adelakorme
A tragic fire incident in the early hours of Monday, August 18, has claimed the life of Madam Mary Allah, a provision shop owner at Avoeme Adelakorme Allahkondzi in the Ketu South Municipality.
The fire, suspected to have been deliberately set by unknown persons, engulfed her residence shortly after midnight. Madam Allah, believed to be in her 30s, was found with half of her body burnt beyond recognition.
The deceased had reportedly suffered repeated thefts in recent months. Family members disclosed that her shop and home had been burgled at least four times, with money and provisions stolen.
In some instances, her doors and windows were tampered with, allegedly in attempts to set them ablaze before this fatal attack.
Her siblings, Madam Ablorshie Allah and Mr Doe Allah, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency, narrated how they managed to help extinguish the fire but were unable to save their sister.
She noted that the deceased was not affluent enough to be envied and questioned the motive behind the repeated attacks.
“This is heartbreaking. As a community, we must not allow such evil to continue. The police must act swiftly, and residents must also rise up to protect each other,” she stressed.
She further indicated that community watchdog committees would be reconstituted to help curb criminal activities and urged residents to be each other’s keepers.
The incident has left the Avoeme community in shock and grief, with many calling for justice for Madam Allah and stronger community security measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
