Anloga DCE urges youth to shun drugs, embrace agriculture for sustainable development
Madam Sandra Seyram Kpedor, District Chief Executive (DCE) of Anloga has called on the youth of the district to avoid illicit drugs and instead invest their energy into productive ventures, with a special focus on agriculture.
Speaking during the recent District Farmers’ Day celebrations, she expressed deep concern over the increasing trend of drug abuse among young people.
Madam Kpedor described the situation as “alarming and a threat not only to the lives of our youth but also to the future development of the district’s human resources.”
In a follow-up interview on Monday, she warned that without urgent interventions, the consequences could be long-lasting, affecting both the social and economic fabrics of the community.
Madam Kpedor encouraged young people to redirect their time and talents into meaningful activities such as apprenticeship programmes, vocational training, trade skills, and agricultural enterprises.
She particularly highlighted opportunities under the government’s flagship “Akukor Nkitinkiti” initiative, urging youth to venture into poultry farming.
“Agriculture is more than a means of survival; it is a tool for empowerment. Our young people must embrace farming and other productive ventures as pathways to sustainable livelihoods and community development.”
The DCE also touched on the importance of personal responsibility and healthy living, especially in addressing the spread of HIV/AIDS in the district.
“Our lifestyles today shape our future. Immoral behaviours and risky practices not only endanger your health but also limit your potential to contribute meaningfully to society. Let us all rise to the challenge. Avoid drugs, invest in yourselves, and embrace agriculture. The future of Anloga depends on the choices we make today.”
Her address highlighted the district’s commitment to promoting youth engagement in agriculture as a key strategy to reduce unemployment, enhance productivity, and build a resilient local economy.
Madam Kpedor commended the district’s security services for their ongoing efforts to combat crime and drug abuse, while hinting at upcoming initiatives aimed at strengthening these efforts to safeguard the youth and the broader community.
