Chris Hughton: Black Stars will qualify for AFCON

Chris Hughton, the coach of the Black Stars is optimistic that the senior national men’s football team will surely qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire in 2024.

Nine places are still up for grabs when the final round of qualifying matches for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations take place in September.

A total of 15 countries are already guaranteed a berth, including Ivory Coast, who qualify automatically as hosts.

The 2024 tournament will begin with the opening match at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan on 13 January 2024. The final will take place on 11 February.

In an exclusive interview with Victor Atsu Tamakloe on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (5 September), Hughton said: “We will do everything we can to make it happen.”

“We have to take it as a good opportunity to qualify for the World Cup to get a feel of the experience,” Hughton added.
