EC: Ignore false claims of secret voter registration and transfer

The Electoral Commission (EC) has refuted claims suggesting it is undertaking a secret voter transfer and voter registration exercise.

This is in reference to two videos circulating on social media, depicting two women purporting to be members of a political party, falsely accusing the Commission of registering voters and undertaking a transfer of votes exercise.

A statement issued by the EC on Monday (16 July), called on the police to arrest and prosecute those behind the fabrications as a matter of urgency.

“The Commission has taken note of two videos circulating on social media, depicting two women purporting to be members of a political party,” the statement said.

“Both women falsely accuse the Commission of registering voters and undertaking a transfer of votes exercise. The Commission states categorically that both allegations are False.”

The EC statement added “It is obvious that this calculated mischief is aimed at tarnishing the image of the Commission and causing disaffection for the Commission in the lead up to the General Election in December, 2024.”
