EC now on a better path – Asiedu Nketia
Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia believes the Electoral Commission is traveling on the right path now.
He says since the NDC joined IPAC in recent times, the EC has decided to bury several ‘reforms’ they intended to introduce during the 2024 elections which the NDC was against.
General Mosquito as he is affectionately called said even though he cannot express confidence in the EC because the work hasn’t been done, he believes that they are on a better path now.
“For this brief period, we realize that through consensus building Electoral Commission has abandoned their hard stance of passing a new CI that will restrict qualification of voters to the possession of Ghana card and many many other things.
They have come to accept that from now to December no new laws will be promulgated. All the proposals they had made in the past about changing the election date to November, about closing the election by 3 pm and all that those have been abandoned by consensus and I believe that we are on a better path now than we used to be,” he told Evans Mensah on Joy News.
On whether he is happy with the Electoral Commission, he said “As I have said, I don’t express confidence in work that hasn’t been done. What we are seeing now we are okay with it”.
