Mali’s National Men’s Football Team head coach Tom Saintfiet has praised fans of the Black Stars for providing a fantastic atmosphere in the game involving Saintfiet’s Mali and Ghana.
Ghana beat Mali 1-0 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification game played at the Accra Sports Stadium with the win cementing Ghana’s position as the front runner in Group I to qualify to next year’s World Cup.
Football fans filled out the 40,000 seating capacity stadium that was without 14,000 seats for the game against Mali due to ongoing works at a section of the stadium.
Despite the reduced number, fans who gathered at the stadium provided a great atmosphere that caught the attention of the Malian head coach.
“Congratulations to all the people in Ghana with the victory. It was a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium. Ghana didn’t play with 11 [players] but 12 or 13 and that helps the team” Saintfiet said.

Ghana next take on Central African Republic and Comoros on October 8 and 11 respectively to round up its qualification campaign.
