Mahama cuts sod for Blekusu Sea Defense Project Phase II
President John Dramani Mahama has officially cut sod for the commencement of Phase Two of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project in the Ketu South Municipality.
The much-anticipated project marks a significant step toward tackling the persistent coastal erosion that has plagued the area for decades, causing widespread destruction and displacing countless families.

Phase Two aims to extend sea defence structures along critical portions of the shoreline, offering protection to vulnerable communities from the impact of tidal waves.

President Mahama, who initiated Phase One of the project during his first term in office, highlighted the urgency of continuing the intervention to secure the long-term safety and resilience of the coastal zone.
Under this phase, the project will include the construction of 37 armour rock groynes spaced at approximately 220-metre intervals, along with land reclamation works to protect an 8-kilometre stretch of coastline.
Completion is expected within 48 months.
