Tegbi Ashiata: Assembly Member requests GHA to repair roads

Mr. Ephraim Dodzi Jumpah, the Assembly Member for Tegbi Ashiata Electoral Area, in Anloga District of the Volta Region, has called on the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), Volta Region, to maintain two major stretches of the Anloga-Keta Highway. 

The request, if honoured, would see the repair of the deplorable state of the roads, which is posing danger to motorists, commuters, emergency service providers, public transporters, motorcyclists, pedestrians and the public. 

Mr. Jumpah, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said that the two hot spots in question were located at Tegbi Kpota sharp curve area and Tegbi Ashiata Main Junction with the two areas been in a state of disrepair for a long time, causing inconvenience to road users.

“There is a need to address this deplorable road issue urgently, and we need to put more emphasis on preventing further deterioration,” he said. 

Mr. Jumpah explained that a request was previously made to the Highway Engineer in the district to help patch the affected areas during the First Ordinary Meeting of the Third Assembly of the Second Session of the Anloga District Assembly, but almost a month has passed, and the areas remain unrepaired. 

He said that the Ghana Highway Authority was established with Decree 298, which charges the authority with administering, controlling, developing, and maintaining all public highways and related facilities in Ghana and one of the missions of the authority was to provide Road Infrastructure Engineering and Management Services at best values.

Mr. Jumpah said with reference to the mandates of the Ghana Highway Authority, the area has appealed to the authority to repair the potholes and sinkholes at Tegbi Kpota curve area and Tegbi Ashiata junction with immediate action within three working weeks starting from July 2 to July 23, 2025. 

He said: “If this request is not attended to within the specified timeframe, we will be forced to take alternative measures to ensure our safety which could include advising motorcyclists and pedestrians within the Tegbi Ashiata enclave to avoid using the roads.” 

Mr. Jumpah said pictures and videos of the deplorable portion of the road has been attached to his letter for the perusal of the Ghana Highway Authority and hoped that the request would be given due consideration and the necessary action would be taken to repair the roads.

Some residents of Tegbi-Ashiata who GNA interacted with expressed worry about the damaged nature of the road and called on the government to put crucial solutions for the safety and convenience of road users. 

They said the poor road conditions always lead to accidents, damage to vehicles, and loss of life and it was therefore essential that the Ghana Highway Authority take immediate action to repair the potholes and sinkholes on the Anloga-Keta highway.
