Sources at the Jubilee House said the government will consider mounting health posts at the various borders to test persons before they’re allowed into the country.

The border opening comes on the back of agitations and demonstrations by residents who live within border towns.

Recently, former President John Mahama also joined calls for the reopening of the borders, after the minority NDC in Parliament made a similar call.

Among other things, he decried the negative impact the situation is having on the economy of border communities.

“The long border closures have devastated the economy of our border communities. The government’s announcement that it is deliberating at Cabinet about a possible opening of our land borders is long overdue. Let’s open the land borders now!” Mahama said in a Facebook post.
