Anloga District Chief Executive champions clean-up exercise at Dzita

Madam Sandra Seyram Kpedor, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Anloga District of the Volta Region, has taken a bold step towards promoting environmental cleanliness and health, by championing a clean-up exercise in the Municipality.  

The exercise, which took place at Akplorwotorkor and Dzita shores, was aimed at promoting a good and safe environment as well as to help eradicate any communicable diseases. 

Madam Kpedor at Dzita beach, said cleanliness was vital for sound environmental health, adding that consistent maintenance of these spaces could also serve as a catalyst for tourism and other economic activities, that would significantly contribute to the development of the Anloga District.

“It must be everybody’s responsibility to be committed towards promoting environmental cleanliness and supporting community-led initiatives that aim at improving sanitation and livelihoods,” she said. 

She said the clean-up exercise showcased the importance of community involvement in maintaining a clean environment, while the volunteer efforts by citizens demonstrated the collective action that could lead to significant positive change in the communities. 

Madam Kpedor said the exercise had numerous benefits such as promoting good health, supporting tourism, and contributing to the overall development of the district.

“I am calling on other stakeholders to come together and help keep the area clean. It is our collective responsibility to maintain a clean environment to build a cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous district”. 

The exercise, she said, aligned with the government’s agenda to promote good health for all, prioritising environmental cleanliness and health for communities to contribute to its efforts towards improving the overall well-being of its citizens. 

The DCE emphasised that it was important to ensure the strict prohibition of all activities contributed to pollution on the shores and their environment.

She said this was a crucial step towards maintaining a clean environment and urged all to identify and address the sources of pollution to contribute to a proactive approach that would preserve the environment. 

Scores of dedicated women volunteers who participated in the beach cleaning exercise charged heads of institutions, individuals and stakeholders to help provide tools including broom, cutlasses and shovels among others, to help speed up the work.  

Madam Kpedor’s participation in the exercise had motivated these communities and would enable others to participate in their numbers in the subsequent activities.
