Bank Of Ghana to introduce upgraded 1cedis coin

The Bank of Ghana will on Monday 12th December 2022 issue an upgraded 1cedi coin in circulation.

According to a press release from the Bank of Ghana on 6th December, the new upgraded coin has some new security features.

The coin is similar to the existing 1cedi coin in shape form and images, with the Coat of arms in front and the scale of Justice at the back.

The upgraded coin is bimetallic with outer gold and inner silver, the coin has a pronounced rough edge and incorporates a latent image that appears in a rectangular form below the scale of Justice at the back.

The latent image changes from a radiating star to a 1ghana cedi symbol sandwiched between two stars when tilted. According to the bank of Ghana, the existing and the upgraded 1cedi coin will co-circulate until the existing coin is gradually withdrawn.

Bank Of Ghana encourages the public to accept the coins and use them.
