A request for political neutrality in the performance of their duties has been made during the swearing-in ceremony for the newly established Volta Regional Peace Council.
The 13-member council is made up of Reverend Seth Kwesi Mawutor (Chairman), Reverend Monsignor Peter Eduwodzi Huletey, Reverend Roger Elorm Titriku, Reverend Godswill Elorm Courage, Mr Ismael Ewudzie.
The remaining individuals are: Alhaji Saeed Dawuda, Osofo Akotey Agbofa Atsyor, Lt. Col. Edward Sarpong Appiah, Mama Atrato II, Mrs. Edith Amenuvor, Mr. Dela Enuameh-Agbolosso, Togbe Gbogbolulu V, and Mr. Masoud Ismael.
The National Peace Council’s Member of the Governing Board, Most Reverend Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, delivered the oaths of office, allegiance, and secrecy to the new members.
According to Rev. Fianu, the impartiality of the council members is vital to build trust between the parties. He made this statement in an interview with Ghana News Agency.
He charged them to be objective in their mediating function devoid of emotions and should rely on the facts from both parties, so they reconcile the facts to bring them to a consensus.
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, greeted the members and stated that his organization was prepared to cooperate with the council to maintain security and tranquility in the Region.
He asserted that the Peace Council’s importance to national affairs could not be overstated because it works tirelessly to maintain the country’s current state of peace.
The Regional Coordinating Council and Regional Peace Council collaborate closely to uphold peace in the Region, according to the Minister, who expressed optimism that this connection will continue.
According to him, there can’t be growth without peace, thus the Regional Coordinating Council would do everything in its power to help the Council maintain the current state of peace in order to draw in investors.
The Chairman of the Council, Rev. Seth Kwasi Mawutor, stated that they were dedicated to carrying out their responsibility and making sure that there was occasionally peace for the development of the Region.
He called for everyone’s support and declared that the Council would take more initiative to create and maintain the peace in the Region.
