Ketasco Basic School is one of the oldest schools in Keta Municipality in the Volta Region. It has classes ranging from lower primary to Junior High School, with a population of about 1,117 to 1,130. The school over the years has produced numerous intellectuals who occupy most public and private offices in Ghana.
However, for some academic years now, it is observed that the school does not have enough desks, and the ones available are not in their best shape to aid smooth teaching and learning processes.
Anyone who has studied in the classroom before would attest to the fact that the lack of desks in the classes makes teaching and learning uncomfortable for both teachers and students, otherwise, they do not yield the needed results.
The Parents and Teachers Association Chairman of the School, Hovor Bubune disclosed to sandcityradioonline.com that measures are underway to meet with the school’s authority and dialogue the way out with respect to the current plight that the students face because as it stands now, the form three classroom is empty due to the lack of adequate desks in the school.
Mr. Hovor thus pleaded with individuals, parents, and guardians, the Keta Municipal Assembly, and the Ghana Education Service to assist them to halt this unfortunate situation that befell the school.
Sandcityradioonline.com also gathered that the Assemblymember for Dzelukope Afugo Electoral Area Rubby Adukpo once donated fifteen pieces of metallic desks to the school but it was not enough to avert the menace.
However, Ketasco Basic School despite the challenges has clocked many awards from quiz competitions held by the Young Foundation Builders Network in the Keta Municipality. It is evident that the school tries to be the academic top-notch in the Keta Municipality but its dreams are endangered by the unavailability of the relevant infrastructure.
Thus, this is a clarion call on all relevant stakeholders in the municipality and beyond to come to the aid of Ketasco basic and support with desks since most students have to sit on the bare floor to learn.
