The Sun Queen Foundation (Stichting de Zonnekoningin) and SOSSAH have handed over a double cabin pick-up vehicle to the St Anthony’s hospital located in the Ketu North Municipal capital of the Volta region.
Prior to the donation, the health facility, especially the public health department over the years, have faced serious accessibility challenge in reaching out to several deprived communities dotted across the Municipality due to lack of vehicle, a situation which has forced personnel to engage the services of private vehicles and motorcycles to enable them reach out when need be.
In attendance at the ceremony were the Diocesan health director, vicar general for the keta Akatsi diocese, the hospital management, staff of the hospital, some chiefs and queen mothers of the area and other invited guests.
Madam Quist Justine, a principal nursing officer, head of public health at St Anthony’s hospital and the SOSSAH Advising ambassador presented the car on behalf of the President and Board members of SOSSAH, the Sun Queen foundation and all individuals who contributed to the success of the project.
She noted that, the donation of the pick-up is the implementation phase of “Wheel for life” project which is to support the public health unit in their outreach as well as other activities.
According to her, SOSSAH foundation has good plans for the hospital therefore is ready to offer help in supporting health care delivery and welfare of all people in the Ketu North Municipality, Volta region and beyond.
She thanked Sun Queen Foundation, SOSSAH, Ton Hendrix en Cis Heerkens, his brothers and wife, Robert de Bruijckere (Godzoga I), Eugenie de Bruijckere-Rondagh (Amavi) and all other individuals who made this project a success.
His Lordship Bishop Gabriel Edoe Kumordji received the vehicle on behalf of the diocese and handed it over to the hospital through the administrator.
He expressed appreciation to the Sun Queen Foundation and SOSSAH for their immense contribution to the hospital.
He also called on the hospital management to properly maintain and ensure the vehicle is always in a good condition.
He further noted that, the use of the car must be done judiciously, and that reckless driving or improper use of the vehicle should not be encouraged.
The administrator of the hospital, Dr. Stephen Aboagye also appreciated the kind gesture from the donors and assured them that, the maintenance of the vehicle will be key to them.
Mr. Aboagye said, the vehicle is in safe hand adding that, the hospital’s administration in partnership with the Ho Technical University shall help in maintaining their vehicle.
With the support of SOSSAH, an organization in the Volta Region that collaborates in its own way with St. Anthony’s Hospital in Dzodze, the Ketu North Municipal Capital, to provide support to the hospital and vulnerable communities in the Municipality and beyond.
SOSSAH over the past few years, supported widows, Persons with Disabilities (PWD’s) and other vulnerable in the society.
In Ghana, Justine, a public health nurse, regularly visits the many vulnerable households spread over various villages. She helps them to seek medical help. Justine includes the most vulnerable among them in her social program.
Both the hospital and the communities received help in form of medical equipment, food, water, care, education and sometimes financial support for education which benefits self-sustainability.
School’s outreach programs were carried out in Basic and Senior High Schools in the Ketu North Municipality as well as thousands of facemasks and hand washing materials donated during the Covid-19 pandemic era.
The vulnerable in some communities were also supported to enrol under the health insurance scheme for free with support from SOSSAH.
In July 2021, a large consignment of medical equipment was received by St Anthony’s hospital through SOSSAH, a kind management of the hospital described as the largest to have been received from a non-governmental organization since the establishment of the health facility.
