Akufo-Addo appoints four Justices to the Supreme Court

The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed four Justices to the Supreme Court in accordance with Article 144(2) of the Constitution.

A letter addressed to the Speaker of Parliament to seek approval of the legislature says the appointment has become necessary due to pending and projected vacancies on the Supreme Court this year.

” As a result of pending and projected vacancies on the Supreme Court this year, the Judicial Council advised me on 4 July 2022, by letter under the hand of its chairperson, Chief Justice Anin Yeboah, of the suitability of my nominations for appointment to the Court of the following persons , in accordance  with Article 144(2) of the Constitution of the Republic.”

“Mr Speaker, it is my respectful hope and expectation that the approval of the nominees will proceed expeditiously, to enable them assume office as soon as practicable,” the letter said.
