Police seize ammunition on Accra-Benin bus at Volta Region checkpoint
Police in the Volta Region have intercepted a large quantity of ammunition on a bus traveling from Accra to Benin.
The discovery was made around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2025, during a routine inspection at the Tadzewu-Mitsrikasa barrier.
Officers stopped a Hyundai bus with registration number GR 8246-Q and uncovered ammunition hidden in sacks beneath passenger luggage.

The seized items included 60 cartons of AAA cartridges, amounting to 15,000 rounds, and 72 cartons of BB cartridges, totaling 18,000 rounds.
Two men, the driver Abasou Fousseni (45) and co-driver Salisu Jalilu (38), were arrested for questioning.

While both denied knowledge of the ammunition, police say intelligence reports point to the co-driver as the one who loaded the items.
The driver has since been granted police enquiry bail to continue the journey with passengers, but the co-driver remains in custody and is assisting with investigations.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

The Ghana Police Service, in a statement issued by DSP Felix Danku of the Volta Region Public Affairs Unit, reaffirmed its commitment to fighting cross-border crime and maintaining security across the region.
