UPDATE: Court remands the two Kpevi suspected motorbike robbers
The Sogakope Circuit court have remanded into Police custody the two (2) suspects arrested in connection with the robbery of a motorbike at Kpevi near Akatsi in the Volta region.
The duo were put before the court on 27 January 2022, where they pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy and robbery.
The two suspects will reappear before the court on 10 February 2022.
The robbery of motorbikes mostly Okada, is becoming quite rampant in recent times and the command is convinced that recent arrest by the Akasti District and subsequent sentencing would stem the tide.
BACKGROUND
On Sunday January 23, 2022, two suspected motorbike robbers Harrison Kojo Gakpo, aged 18, and Raphael Lotse, 19 narrowly escaped death after they were arrested by a mob at Kpevi, a village near Akatsi in the Volta region.
Inspector Prince Dogbatse from the Public Affairs Unit at the Volta Regional command narrated that, the two together with one other, now at large attacked and robbed a commercial motor rider of his Sanya motorbike at Kpevi.
“On the day of the attack, one of the suspects hired the services of a commercial motor rider whilst the others laid ambushed and upon reaching the planned location, the pillion rider attempted to strangle the rider with a rope.”
He said, the rider was disabled upon the attack and the accomplices emerged from the bush on another motorbike and altogether sped off with the Sanya motorbike belonging to the victim.
Luck eluded the suspects as the rider shouted for help and members of the community including other commercial motor riders arrested the two suspects in the neighbouring village, Kpevi. A third suspect however managed to escape arrest and fled into the bush.
The mob subjected the two suspects to severe beatings before Police arrived and rescued the two however, the Sanya motorbike was retrieved.
