Volta Regional Minister appeals to media to consider development collaboration 

Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister has appealed to the media to consider its development orientation and provide the needed support towards the growth of the nation.

He said national progress must be encouraged by all, and the media should consider the promotion of the development agenda over sensation and mischief.

The Regional Minister made the appeal when the Volta and Oti Regional Executives of the Ghana Journalists Association paid a courtesy call on him on Monday.

Dr. Letsa said the Region sought to leverage tourism and other industrial strength in growing a fully developed economy, and that the media was expected to lead the drive.

He commended the media in the Region for their work and reaffirmed government’s support for personnel.

The Regional Executives and the Regional Minister discussed possible areas of collaboration.

Dr. Letsa promised his support for the second phase of the Volta Press Centre Project, and welcomed other initiatives including training for personnel.

Mr. Emmanuel Agbaxhode, the GJA Regional Chairman, said the association sought “strong collaboration” with stakeholders as it worked to promote training of practitioners particularly on security reporting, and secure the welfare of members.

The chairman thanked the Regional Minster for “solidly” supporting the association and promised stronger working ties to help build the Region.

The team called on the heads of the Police and the Military Regiment, both of whom welcomed the efforts at enhancing collaboration. 

Mr Divine Bosson, Ho Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), asked the media to cast more scope over the local governance and other works of government, noting an over concentration on politicians while other equally important areas suffered neglect.

The MCE also commended the media for the Municipality’s growing economy, and called to support efforts at leveraging fully, its tourism and investment potentials.

The Executive tour ended at the regional office of the Ghana Tourism Authority, which also reaffirmed continuous collaboration towards growing the sector said to be the Region’s biggest potential.
