2021 World Tourism Day: Volta Region to host national event
The Hohoe municipality will come to life on September 27, 2021, as the Ghana Tourism Authority takes the annual ‘World Tourism Day’ celebration to the Volta Region.
This year’s event is under the theme “Tourism for Inclusive Growth”.
The Volta Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Alexander Nketia in an interview with Citi News said “the event starts on September 24 where stakeholders in the private and public sector in the tourism industry will engage to deliberate on development partnership”.
He further added that there will be mountain hiking challenge as part of events to ensure inclusiveness.
Hohoe and the Afadzato enclave in the Volta Region are arguably the most endowed with natural beauty and landscape.
The Wli Waterfall which is the tallest in West Africa, the Afadzato beING the tallest mountain in Ghana are but a few of the most visited tourist sites in that area.
The region’s tourism potential is enormous, spanning from the south to the far north.
The latest addition is the canopy walkway over the Ote waterfall at Amedzofe.
The Ghana Tourism Authority and the Volta-Eastern chapter of the Association of Ghana Industries under the auspices of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) have embarked on aggressive marketing of the sites.
This is integrated into the much anticipated Volta Trade Fair earmarked for November this year, to be held in the Ho sports stadium.
Tourism remains Ghana’s fourth foreign exchange earner.
This has been drastically affected by the impact of COVID.
