Assin North By-Election: NDC’s James Gyakye Quayson Beats NPP’s Charles Opoku

Provisional election results for the Assin North constituency, James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won enough votes to win back the seat.

Quayson has defeated Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who was his closest rival, according to results from all 99 voting places, according to Shinemegh.com  monitoring of election results from reliable media outlets and independent observers.

The results show that James Gyakye Quayson secured 17,205 of the total ballots cast, representing 57.4% of the ballots, while NPP’s Charles Opoku secured a total of 11, 398 votes, representing 42.05%.

The Supreme Court mandated that James Gyakye Quayson’s name be removed from the list of recognized members of Parliament in May of this year.

The man named Assin North MP for the NDC in 2020 was found to have neglected to renounce his Canadian citizenship prior to running for public office, the top court decided on May 17, 2023.
