Torgbui Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII, Paramount Chief of Amugo Wego and Anyako Konu, has urged Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, to demonstrate strong leadership in the performance of his ministerial duties.
Speaking during a courtesy call on the Minister, Torgbui Dzokoto Gligui VII emphasised that a leader must be observant, strategic, and unwavering in the face of challenges.
He likened the type of leadership required to that of the hippopotamus, which is not only a powerful and fearless creature in its domain but also a symbol of patience and wisdom—qualities essential for effective leadership.
“A hippopotamus is a brave animal in water; it watches everything carefully, remains unshaken, and does not reveal its intentions prematurely but acts decisively when necessary. This is the character you must embody as you lead the Volta Region,” the Paramount Chief advised.
As a symbolic gesture, Torgbui Dzokoto Gligui VII presented Mr. Gunu with a sculpture of a hippopotamus, explaining that the animal is also a revered emblem of the Bate Clan of Anlo, to which the Minister belongs.
Mr. Gunu, in response, expressed profound gratitude to the chiefs and queen mothers from Anyako for their visit and kind words of encouragement.
He reaffirmed his commitment to serving the region with diligence and pledged to uphold the values of resilience, inclusivity, and development-oriented leadership.
He further emphasised that the Chieftaincy sector remained a priority for President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which is why the Local Government Ministry has been merged with the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
“This integration is a clear indication that the President seeks to foster a stronger connection between local governance, traditional authorities, and religious leaders to drive meaningful development for our people,” Mr. Gunu stated.
The visit was marked by warm exchanges, a renewed sense of collaboration between the government and traditional leaders, and a shared vision for the advancement of the Volta Region.
