Calls to retain Hawa Koomson intensify

The Volta regional chapter of the Ghana National Canoe Fishermen Council appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to retain the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture  Mavis Hawa Koomson.

This follows the President’s move to reshuffle some State Ministers, MMDCEs, and CEOs to create a more challenging work atmosphere toward achieving the government’s common purpose this year.

At a Press Conference, the Public Relation Officer of the Council Kofi Kerekeshie stated that they are of a firm conviction that Mavis Hawa Koomson is turning around Ghana’s near-collapsed fisheries industry for the better, and must be allowed to complete the positive transformational agenda that she has commenced.

Mr. Kerekeshie explained that the sector minister brought massive changes to the artisanal fishers at various shores and landing beaches during her tenure in office for the past two years and has also put an end to the bad fishing habits on the waters over the past fifteen years.

Other council members also disclosed to Sandcityradioonline that Mavis Hawa Koomson has made life comfortable for the small-scale fishers by exempting Tuna vessels and Trawlers from coming to the shores and landing beaches as well as putting core measures in place to halt the menace of light fishing.

They explained that this has given the artisanal fishers a bumper harvest for the past two years.

The council is thus optimistic that the president adheres to their call and maintains Mavis Hawa Koomson as Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture and should not be included in the reshuffle.
