GFA sacks Black Stars coach Chris Hughton

The executive council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that it has decided to terminate the appointment of the Black Stars’ coach, Chris Hugton with immediate effect.

Ghana conceded twice in stoppage time to throw away a two-goal lead to draw with Mozambique and almost certainly exit the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars looked to be cruising into the last 16 thanks to two Jordan Ayew penalties, one in each half.

But Geny Catamo pulled one back from the spot 91 minutes before Reinildo Mandava’s header broke Ghana’s hearts.

Mozambique finished bottom of Group B, while Ghana failed to qualify to the next round.

A statement issued by the GFA on Tuesday (23 January) said ” The Executive Council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars.”

“The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior National team with immediate effect.”

“The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars,” the GFA statement said.
