Poultry farmers lament over high cost of poultry feed for smooth productivity.

Poultry farmers in Akatsi,Weta and the surrounding communities in Akatsi South and Ketu North Municipalities of the Volta region, have lamented over the high cost of poultry feeds for smooth productivity. This according to them,has affected the poultry business as well as contributed to the low productivity in the areas.

Mr Dornoo Wonder, Manager of ‘Feed Nation Farms Limited,’ a poultry farm at Akatsi, in an interaction with Keta-based SandCity radio ,stated that the price of poultry feeds keep on increasing.

“Poultry farming is a lucrative business that many would like to indulge in but the cost incentive and others with its challenges tend to drive many away,” he stated

He further debunked the report from the Poultry Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG), that stated that the reduction in prices of maize has led to reduction in price of poultry feeds,fowls and eggs.

He said the high cost of poultry feeds was attributed to importation and high cost of ingredients in preparing the feeds.

“I have about 20,000 birds which l prepared the feeds for locally to reduce the high cost involved though it is costly considering the price of the various ingredients.”

He said other ingredients for the feeds which include soya beans,oyster shell,maize,concentrates,wheat among others were of high cost that ranges between ₵200.00 and ₵500.00.

Mr Seth Amuzu, another poultry farmer who spoke to SandCity radio during a visit to the farms, lamented about the increasing price of farm inputs which contributed to high cost of productivity.

They appealed to individuals, coorperate entities, philanthropists and the government to help solve their challenges for safe and easy business.

They also urged the general public and their customers to patronage their products for better business transaction.
