Man drowns in river Dah

Wisdom Tolodo, an employee of a sachet water producing company in Ho Saturday got drowned in river Dah at the outskirts of Adaklu Kodzobi.

This happened after a torrential rainfall, which lasted for over three hours making the river overflow its banks and cross the road.

Mr. Evans Akpah, Assemblyman for Adaklu Kodzobi Electoral Area disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency at Adaklu Kodzobi in the Adaklu district.

He stated that Tolodo, a native of Adaklu Kodzobi, who was in his early thirties on that fateful day was returning from work in Ho, when the incident occurred.

The Assemblyman continued that because the river overflowed the bridge no vehicle or humans from either Ho or Kodzobi could cross it.

He said according to eyewitnesses, when Tolodo got to the river he met others who were there and could not cross.

Mr. Akpah stated that Tolodo was said to tell the people that he could cross the river, but he was dissuaded by the people from doing so.

He noted that the victim ignored the advice and walked into the flood waters.

Mr. Akpah stated that the eyewitnesses told him that whilst he got to the middle of the river, he was carried away by the swift currents.

He said the people raised an alarm and called for help but because of the swiftness of the current the people could not rescue him immediately.

The Assemblyman stated that Tolodo was finally discovered in about an hours’ time and taken to the Municipal hospital in Ho, where he was pronounced dead.

He said the overflowing of the river over the bridge was a recurrent one due to the low nature of the bridge considering the volume of water that passes through it.

Mr. Akpah noted that the situation was a major headache for the people of the area including workers and students at the University of Health and Allied Sciences during rainy seasons.

He therefore appealed to the Adaklu District Assembly and the government to come to the rescue of the people by reconstructing the bridge over the river.
