Residents of Korvenu appeal for potable water

Residents of Korvenu in the Avenorpeme Electoral Area of the Akatsi South Municipality, Volta Region, have appealed to philanthropists, individuals, corporate organisations, and the government to provide them with potable water.

The residents said they had been struggling for potable and safe water for the past 30 years.

Mr Lewis Attivor, the Assembly Member of the area, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the only water source available to the people of Korvenu, Maleme and Havekope was a stagnant water body that they always share with animals such as cattle and goats.

“This water source is a threat to humanity, and it can lead to waterborne diseases such as bilharzia and others which can possibly resulted in dangerous sicknesses which can cause death,” he said.

He said that the residents of Korvenu and the surrounding communities were in dire need of urgent attention to resolve the water crisis.

“In addition to the water crisis, the residents of Korvenu, Maleme and Havekope also lack access to electricity, we are appealing to the relevant authorities to address both the water and electricity challenges.”

He said that lack of access to clean water and electricity was having a significant impact on the daily lives of the residents and needed urgent attention to save the communities.
