Water scarcity worsens in Agbozume despite repeated appeals
Despite numerous calls to address the water crisis in Agbozume, residents continue to walk long distances to neighbouring communities in search of water for their daily needs.
For over two years, residents have lived without access to potable water, despite repeated assurances from authorities. Their situation has worsened following major flooding in 2023, which contaminated several wells the community relied on.
Despite repeated appeals to the Ghana Water Company and local government officials, the problem remains unresolved.
Broken pipelines that once delivered water to households have yet to be repaired, forcing residents, especially women and children, to walk long distances to nearby towns like Klikor to fetch water.
The absence of a consistent water supply has severely disrupted daily life. Some market women in Agbozume say they now spend close to GHS 100 every three days just to secure enough water for their families and businesses.
They describe the situation as dire and worsening by the day, calling on authorities to intervene immediately.
Worsening the crisis, many of the wells previously used by residents have been contaminated due to severe flooding in 2023.
The floodwaters introduced debris and harmful pollutants, rendering these water sources unsafe for consumption.
Some residents told Channel One News that even their relatives who live outside Agbozume now avoid visiting due to the ongoing water shortage.
They are urging the government and relevant agencies to act swiftly and permanently resolve the issue.
“Sometimes when they attend a funeral in the area, because of water shortage, they choose to sleep in Guest Houses,” a resident revealed.

“Water ceased flowing for about three years now. We, the elderly, are really suffering because the little money we have is spent on water. We are appealing to the authorities to come and fix the issue for us,” a resident told Channel One News
“We have to struggle daily to get water. It is very bad here. But if the issue is fixed, life will be better because we spend a lot,” another lamented.
Channel One News first reported on this crisis in 2024, yet no significant action has been taken.
Local opinion leaders in Agbozume say all efforts to draw the attention of authorities have been met with silence or unfulfilled promises.
Community leader Redeemer Veron Glakpe shared his frustration over the neglect and pleaded for immediate action.
“We want the Ghana Water Company to come to our aid,” he said.
