Akufo-Addo retires Osei Ameyaw as director general of NLA

President Akufo-Addo says a one-year contract of service granted Osei Ameyaw as director general of the NLA has elapsed

President Akufo-Addo has directed Kofi Osei Ameyaw, the director general of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), to retire from office.

A letter signed by Nana Asante Bediatuo, secretary to the president said a one-year contract given to Kofi Osei Ameyaw expired on 20 February 2021 hence the need for him to retire.

“Upon reaching the compulsory retirement age of 60 years on February 2020, the president of the Republic, by letter dated 3 September 2020, under my hand, granted you a one-year contract of service as director general of the National Lottery Authority, the contract elapsed on 20 February 2021 and, therefore, you are retired.” the letter said.

Termination of contract

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has also terminated the appointment of Yaw Amoakohene Baafi as the deputy director general of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

“Due to the re-organisation of the Authority, I am to inform you that the president has terminated your appointment with immediate effect. You are directed to proceed to collect your terminal benefits in lieu of notice” a separate letter to Yaw Amoakohene Baafi said.

Some staff of the NLA recently demanded the dismissal  Osei Ameyaw over the non-payment of big win claims due winners of lottery draws across the country.

The workers alleged that some of their members have received threats and in some instances been attacked due to the development.

They also say the poor management of the Authority also resulted in the inability to pay salaries for the month of February 2021.
